Waxing FAQ

Q: Will my hair grow back thicker or darker?

A: Your hair won’t grow back thicker and darker after waxing, just the opposite! Hair that is removed at the root grows back softer and finer over time.

Q: Does waxing hurt?

A: Everyone has a different level for pain tolerance and what is painful for someone may not bother someone else. At Lo Nicely Skin & Beauty both our wax and our process work together to offer you the most comfortable service possible. If you have concerns about sensitvity, we recommend taking an ibuprofen or aspirin about 30 minutes before your appointment to help maximize your comfort. For minimum discomfort and to ensure speedy visits, come in for waxing treatments every 4 weeks.

Q: Can I get waxed while pregnant?

A: Of course. Keep in mind you may experience a little more sensitivity when getting waxed.

Q: Can I qet waxed if I'm using aha/bha's, topical medidcations or antibitoics?

A: Taking antibiotics or topical acne medications such as (but not limited to) retinols, retin A, epiduo, differin, glycolic acid, lactic acid, benzyl peroxide, salicylic acid, vitamin A, prescribed exfoliating scrubs, hormonal medications, radiation and/or chemotherapy drugs etc can cause skin sensitivity and the skin to lift when waxed. You must be off accutain for 6 months before getting waxed. Stop the use of aha's/bha's, any type of retinols 48 hours prior to wax.

Q: How long does my hair need to be?

A: The hair should be one fourth of an inch long or the length of a grain of rice which is typically two to three weeks of growth. A good rule of thumb to remember is if you can easily pinch the hair, you’re ready to get waxed!

Q: Is home care really necessary?

A: Yes! To guarentee the best results you must follow proper home care. Soaps, perfumes or make-up should not be applied for at least 12 hours after a waxing service. No tanning beds, intense workouts, sex, hot showers or sun for 24 hours after waxing. Use a soft loofa sponge or dry bursh to exfoliate dead skin cells 24-48 hours after wax.

Q: Will my skin react to waxing?

A: There is a possibility. If you are prone to ingrown hairs and irritation from shaving, you are more likely to have the same reactions waxing, decreased. To minimize skin reactions, you must use proper home care and come to get waxed on a regular schedule.

Q: Can I wax during my menstrual cycle?

A: During your menstrual cycle, your body tends to be more sensitive due to the change of hormones, and this could cause the treatment to be more painful depending on your pain tolerance. We recommend you schedule an appointment three days prior to your cycle or 2 days after.

Q: What should I wear to my wax appoitment?

A: We suggest wearing loose clothing. The skin is usually sensitive post waxing and you won’t want to wear anything that rubs or causes friction.

Q: Does Lo Nicely Skin & Beauty offer male brazilian waxing?

A: Unfortunately, we are unable to provide brazilian waxing for men at this time.
